Dimitar Berbatov delivers warning about what Manchester United are missing under Ralf Rangnick

Former striker Dimitar Berbatov has accused Manchester United of lacking a "game plan" under interim manager Ralf Rangnick following Sunday's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

United, who face Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in another huge contest on Saturday, were competitive and sprightly in the first half against City, although they found themselves 2-1 down at the break. However, they collapsed after the interval and were given a second schooling of the season by their neighbours.

United barely had a touch of the ball in the second half and failed to register a single shot. City dominated the contest and every pass in the latter stages were greeted by a chorus of 'ole's from the home fans.

But even though United, for most people, performed reasonably well in the first half, Berbatov thought their overall approach was poor. He has described the performance as being "unacceptable" and called for Rangnick and the players to do more.

Berbatov told Betfair: "I was angered and saddened by Manchester United's performance against Manchester City. It was unacceptable. And I'm not only talking about the second half.

"United had no game plan. Or if they did, they didn't stick to it.

"City's talented players were able to exploit United's weaknesses. Everything about the match was disappointing to me.

"United are inconsistent. I see no evidence of a plan when I watch them. On paper, they have a talented squad but it doesn't work out for them on the pitch.

"The players and the manager must ask themselves: 'What more can I do? How can I do more for this team?' They need to take responsibility."
