Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov likened Paul Pogba to Michael Carrick, describing the build up to the third goal against Chelsea as "pure football."
The French midfielder admitted that he was seeking a new challenge earlier in the summer after United's disappointing Premier League campaign saw them miss out on Champions League qualification.
Real Madrid are eager to secure the services of the former Juventus man but are way off meeting Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's valuation of their record signing.
Despite missing the final pre-season game against AC Milan, Pogba returned to the starting XI to face Chelsea and the World Cup winner was instrumental in the victory.
As well as assisting Daniel James for United's fourth goal, the Frenchman also teed up Marcus Rashford with a superb pass over the top of the Chelsea defence.
Former striker Berbatov branded the goal as "pure football" and said Pogba was showing similar traits to Carrick, who is now involved in a coaching role at the club.
"Pogba's perfect pass to Marcus Rashford for United's third goal was what I call 'pure football'," he told Betfair. "When I played for United, Michael Carrick would get the ball and his first thought was always to play it forward.
"He knew exactly where I was and there are plenty of examples of him giving me the ball to score a goal.
"Special players save their energy for the exact right moment."
Berbatov added that he feels Pogba would leave the club if Madrid up their offer, but hoped to see him stay at Old Trafford.
"If United receive a bid from Madrid in the next fortnight in the region of £200m, then the transfer will happen. But I hope Pogba stays at United and I don't think Zidane will quit Madrid if he fails to sign his compatriot," the ex-Tottenham forward said.
