Yum Cha, the ‘dim sum kitchen’ that has proved a hit in Liverpool, is to open up at the Kampus development, opposite Canal Street. Founded by brothers Adam and Neil Wan, it’ll major on small plates, Chinese roasted meats and tea.
“People can expect honest, authentic Chinese food, packed with flavour and made for sharing with friends and family,” said Adam Wan, who opened the first Yum Cha on Lark Lane in Liverpool. “More than ever, people are craving spending quality time with loved ones. Yum Cha is the tradition, passed down over centuries, of gathering to swap stories over tea and food.
“We’re bringing a piece of that ancient culture, to a laid back but stylish space in the heart of Manchester. We’ve always had big dreams to expand Yum Cha and bring our delicious, home-cooked Dim Sum to new communities and Kampus couldn’t be more perfect.
“We’ll be among a family of foodies in one of the most amazing places in the city."
As well as small plates, roast meats and dumplings, there will also be larger main courses of noodles and curries too, alongside the bamboo steamers. Inside, the interior will be ‘industrial chic with polished concrete, softened with lanterns, wood carvings from China and neon lighting’.
It’s just the latest in a host of brands from Liverpool heading over to open up in Manchester. Madre, the taco restaurant from Albert Dock, will also be arriving at Kampus soon. It follows Bold Street Coffee opening a second location on University Green, and Maray, which is set to open off Albert Square in the coming months.
It’s also just the latest operator to move into the space at upscale rental neighbourhood Kampus, which is spread across various previously derelict buildings between Minshull Street and Chorlton Street, close to Piccadilly.
The Cloudwater brewery will be opening a brand new ‘beer hall’, while New Islington bakery Pollen will also be opening a patisserie and restaurant. Yum Cha will open later in the spring.
