Diljit explained that peaceful protest outside a venue is everyone’s right, but crossing the line by troubling concertgoers is unacceptable. In his statement, written in Punjabi, he said that people often bring banners or flags to concerts as a way of showing support and representing where they come from. However, he added that if individuals use those symbols to abuse or intimidate fans and attempt to create chaos inside the venue, action will be taken against them.
The singer further clarified that the controversy was never about any specific banner or flag, but rather the intention behind such actions. He revealed that he had instructed his security team to remove anyone attempting to disrupt the concert. Diljit also accused some people of spreading “fake narratives” by claiming he had spoken against certain flags or banners.
“I never said anything against any banner,” he stated, adding that he had avoided speaking publicly about the issue since last year but felt compelled to respond now. He concluded his message by thanking supporters and spreading a message of “love and peace.”
Why the Controversy Began
The controversy traces back to October 2025, when Diljit Dosanjh appeared on the popular television show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 17 and touched the feet of host Amitabh Bachchan as a mark of respect. During the episode, Amitabh praised Diljit as “Punjab da puttar” (Punjab’s son) for his contributions toward flood relief efforts.
Following the episode, reports emerged that the separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), associated with the pro-Khalistan movement, criticized Diljit for the gesture. According to reports, SFJ leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun accused the singer of disrespecting victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots by honoring Amitabh Bachchan, who has previously faced allegations related to remarks made during that period. Amitabh Bachchan has denied those allegations in the past.
SFJ reportedly threatened to disrupt Diljit’s concerts after the television appearance. Despite the criticism, Diljit continued to advocate for unity and peace. Speaking earlier on the matter, he said that he believes the world is one and quoted the Sikh principle of “Ik Onkar,” emphasizing that he only wishes to spread love regardless of criticism or trolling.
The singer reiterated that his message has always been rooted in peace, saying that he harbors no hatred toward anyone and will continue promoting harmony through his words and music.
