Dilip Vengsarkar to contest ICA polls

INDORE: Former India skipper and chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar could soon be a member of the BCCI's Apex Council. The 116-Test veteran is contesting the elections to be the male representative of the Indian Cricketers Association in the BCCI, reliable sources in ICA revealed to TOI.

The ICA elections will take place online from October 27-29. According to an e-notification issued on the ICA's website by BCCI's Election officer AK Jothi, the polling will commence on 10am on October 27, and end on October 29 at 2pm. The results will be declared on the same day.

In 2019, former India batsman and selector Ashok Malhotra became the first-ever the president of ICA, with ex-India players Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangawasmy as the first-ever ICA representatives in the BCCI. Pragyan Ojha is the ICA representative in the IPL Governing Council.

However, Gaekwad just turned 70 and is thus not eligible to take up any post in the BCCI, though he can become the ICA president as there is no age bar on that post. "Malhotra wants to continue for another term, but a powerful section in the BCCI wants Gaekwad to be the new ICA president," a source told TOI.

While the draft electoral roll, comprising 802 voters, was released on September 30, the deadline for submission of objections to the names enrolled in the same is 3pm on October 4. The final electoral list will be released at 3pm on October 7.

Candidates can file their nominations from October 8-11 between 11am-5pm. Nominations can be withdrawn till 5pm on October 18.

Sandhu to contest for ICA representative post in MCA

Meanwhile, former India seamer Balwinder Singh Sandhu has decided to file his nomination to be an ICA representative in the MCA's Apex Council. In 2019, ex-Mumbai batsman Kiran Powar and Samantha Lobato became the first male and female representative of ICA in the MCA's Apex Council. Presently, ex-Mumbai pacer Pradeep Kasliwal and Lobato are the ICA representatives in the MCA Apex Council.
