'Different level' - Everything Mauricio Pochettino has said about Liverpool amid Manchester United links

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as Manchester United manager is up after an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday - and now he could be replaced by Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino is amongst the names heavily linked with the vacant role - with the Manchester Evening News reporting the Paris-Saint Germain boss wants the job now.

United have slipped down to eighth in the table following a dismal run of form during a season in which they were tipped to be Premier League title contenders.

It could be up to Pochettino to get the Red Devils back fighting for a top-four place alongside Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Argentine has plenty of history with Liverpool after his time in charge at Tottenham Hotspur- most notably losing in the Champions League final as the Reds brought home number six in 2019.

Rivalries could soon be renewed between Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp - if United are to get their man - and the ex- Spurs manager has had this to say about Liverpool in the past.

“You cannot compare [Liverpool and Tottenham ],” Pochettino said.

“When Klopp arrived at Liverpool it was only about focusing on building a team that could compete and be a real contender with other teams.

“Our philosophy is completely different, we can't compare the two projects. They are on a completely different level.

“We are focused on different things [to Liverpool], that's why we are different, and we must be focused on operating in different ways and still be competitive as football is the most important thing in this company.

“[Liverpool] have an unbelievable squad and every season they add more quality.

“So it's normal that Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea are building to win and be real contenders.”

Another contender for the vacant United job is former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who had to express his loyalty to Leicester City in his press conference before Chelsea won 3-0 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
