'Different gravy' - Bolton Wanderers fans' unanimous verdict on player in Shrewsbury Town win

Bolton Wanderers remain in the mix in the top half of League One and on the cusp of the play-off places after a win at home over Shrewsbury Town.

Wanderers followed up the midweek win over Charlton Athletic with three points against struggling Salop.

Antoni Sarcevic put Bolton in front in the first half before Dapo Afolayan doubled Wanderers' advantage before the break.

Sarcevic gave away a penalty for a foul on Shaun Whalley in the second half, but Ryan Bowman's penalty was saved by Joel Dixon.

Salop did halve the deficit just before full-time thanks to Luke Leahy's free-kick, but Wanderers held out to pick up three points in a 2-1 victory.

Despite not holding out to keep a clean sheet, Ricardo Almeida Santos put in an impressive performance at the back and Wanderers fans on Twitter were united in their praise of the central defender following the victory.

Martin Mason wrote: "We made really hard work of that, but we grounded out win there. Love it. Santos was immense."

@nickbass87 posted: "If anybody knows why Shrewsbury were given a free kick let me know. I was absolutely baffled. Also, Lloyd Isgrove is the man. Builder, surfer and full back. What a man."

Martin Barlolw wrote: "My man of the match is @Ralmeidas5 today. No one is even close!!"

AndyC_88 posted: "My only complaint about today's game was I thought we sat back a little too much at 2-0 instead of putting them to the sword but a win is a win."

@liams1874 posted: "Great win after a week of travelling up to Sunderland and down to Charlton in the space of a week. Didn’t deserve to concede, liner bottled it! Great win."

Alex Martin wrote: "Reckon Dapo Afolayan is the best player I’ve seen play for us since we dropped out the Prem."

Aidan Brown wrote: "Santos was easily the most important player, 2 goal saving blocks is the headline but super solid through the middle against a big team."

@AzzSharpY posted: "magine not wanting Sarcevic in your starting 11. What a player! Works himself into the ground! Leads by example."

Chris Hutcheson wrote: "Lee and Rico today. Absolute different gravy."

Scotty Lithgow wrote: "Santos today was complete beast still baffled how shrewsbury aloud have Free kick when linesman flag for offside?"

Andrew Broome wrote: "Great win that. I don’t think we played as well as we have done at times this season but we did enough to see the game out. Back to back wins, special shoutout to Santos, possibly one of his best performances in a #BWFC shirt today."

Reece Scholes wrote: "That 2nd half was probably more difficult because of Gethin Jones missing, people take for granted the attacking and defensive graft that lad puts in every game. Not saying Izzy played bad, he’s just not a RB."

@BwfcNathan posted: "Santos man of the match by a mile. He had an amazing game."

@aaron_bwfc posted: "1st half better than 2nd, made it more hard work than it should have been, but the officials had a mare for their goal - Rico man of the match."
