Dietmar Hamann identifies why Ozan Kabak can be a success at Liverpool

Dietmar Hamann says Ozan Kabak is more suited to English football than the Bundesliga.

The centre-back made a surprise switch on loan to Liverpool from Schalke on transfer deadline day, with the Reds having the chance to sign the 20-year-old permanently at the end of the season should they wish.

He is yet to make his Liverpool debut but is in training with the first-team, grabbing the attention of fans after a cheeky nutmeg on Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The move to sign Kabak raised eyebrows for some, however, with the Turkey international having been a part of comfortably the worst defence in the German top-tier before his loan to Anfield.

Schalke are rock-bottom of the Bundesliga and conceded 49 goals in just 19 league games before Kabak moved, having also recorded just one win all season.

It led some, such as Paul Merson, to argue that Kabak may struggle to adapt to switching from a side shipping goals to one expected to win every week.

Yet Reds legend Hamann says he is a big fan of Kabak and believes his physicality means he will be better suited to playing in the Premier League than he was in the Bundesliga.

Hamann did warn that the former Galatasaray youngster, who moved to Germany in 2019 when he joined VfB Stuttgart, is still a raw talent, however.

"He is a physical player, loves to wrestle and the English league will suit him better than the Bundesliga," Hamann told the Daily Mail.

"He’s very capable, I like him.

"Ozan can be a bit rash but he is good enough to step up even though he’s young."
