Flagship saloon gets new six-cylinder diesel-turbo option along with its mandatory facelift; Maybach version also updated.

Mercedes-Benz Thailand has launched the facelifted S-class which now has a diesel option to choose from again after the company pledged to sell only plug-in hybrid models.
Tagged as S350d, the luxury saloon receives a new 3.0-litre inline-six diesel turbo developing 286hp and 600Nm of torque, the latter’s maximum achieved from just 1,200rpm.
Fitted with AMG Premium spec, the S350d costs 7.64 million baht. The BMW 730Ld archrival, equipped with 265hp/620Nm six-cylinder diesel, is priced lower at 6.399 million baht in the M Sport equivalent.
Mercedes-Benz, however, boasts more driver aids like full parking assist, evasive steering assist and active cruise control which can bring the car to a full stop when necessary.
Sources say the S500e plug-in hybrid will be superseded with the S560e in facelifted form later featuring a new battery to help increase the all-electric driving range.
The Maybach version of the S-class continues to live in Thai showrooms. It comes in S560 Premium form featuring 469hp/700Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol motor and is priced at 17.44 million baht.
The 7-series is also being sold with a luxurious range-topper but in a slightly different manner. The M760Li xDrive sees 610hp 6.6-litre V12 and costs 12.499 million baht in Model V12 Excellence form.
