The petrol price increases have hit small firms hard; it's now the turn of diesel costs, says the Guardian. Energy prices are biting internationally, comments the New York Times (you may need an RSS reader for the NY Times piece).
The Guardian also has a report on the Olympics and the rules that will govern businesses wanting to get some advantage.
The Independent has a report confounding much of the economic data lately, saying that growth is about to be ahead of target - only yesterday you'll recall the CBI was saying otherwise, as the same paper reported. Also positive is the resumption of talks in the Gate Gourmet saga, which the Daily Telegraph says are resuming today - with announcements that they'd already started and people jetting of to the States it was easy to get the impression they'd never stopped or had been abandoned altogether. The Telegraph also carries a report putting the other side of the Chinese textile problem. Yahoo! News confirms talks are continuing today.
The Times disagrees about economic growth and notes a slowing of business spending. It also points to business start-up figures being distorted by self-employed people, who by definition don't create jobs other than their own.
