Diego Simeone speaks out on Antoine Griezmann amid Man Utd transfer rumours

Rumours have been swirling surrounding the future of Antoine Griezmann.

The French superstar only penned a new contract at Atletico Madrid last summer but their recent Champions League failure has led to reports he could be set to depart in the summer.

The 28-year-old has heavily been linked with European giants Barcelona , Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United , who are all said to be monitoring his situation.

But his manager, Diego Simeone, has now broken his silence on the speculation his star player could depart in the summer.

The Argentinian boss insists he cannot imagine a scenario where Griezmann is not back at the Wanda Metropolitano next season.

Man Utd legend urges Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not to sign transfer target

"Honestly, I am not worried about the Griezmann issue," Simeone said.

"He is a captain of Atletico de Madrid. He has always responded with football, with facts, what he wants.

"Now we have an important game in which he will have to answer.

"If I imagine the next season without Griezmann? No, I can not imagine the next season without him because he has a contract with the club, he is one of the captains of Atletico, he gave everything since he arrived and I imagine tomorrow he will have a great match.

“Everything I imagine is around Griezmann."

Real Madrid 'plotting triple summer swoop' with £430m transfer war chest

Griezmann's summer contract extension tied him down in the Spanish capital until 2023.

However, there have been rumours his new deal includes a drastic drop in his release clause in July which could make him more affordable to top clubs.

Griezmann himself has voiced frustration over the rumours which seem to regularly surface - but there is no doubt the likes of United, Barcelona and PSG are on red alert regarding is situation.
