Diego Simeone's new Kieran Tripper bid take but Newcastle United target still training in Madrid

Diego Simeone says he will not stand in Kieran Trippier's way if he wants to quit Atletico Madrid.

Newcastle United lodged a formal bid for the England full-back on the opening day of the January transfer window, but there is also solid interest from Chelsea.

And sources in Madrid say that Manchester United still have dialogue with Atletico after an attempt to prise him to Old Trafford last summer fell through.

The La Liga side have not denied Newcastle's official offer for the 31-year-old with Simeone quizzed about Trippier's future today.

Simeone was asked about the former Burnley and Tottenham player today and said: "Trippier? Whatever he wants will happen and we will work accordingly.

"We have always lived with these situations and very good players within the team will get possibilities of leaving.

"Then it will depend on what the footballer wants.

"Consequently, we will try to follow what is happening and look for solutions.

"He is an important player for our team."

Despite the bid Trippier appeared in training videos shot Saturday morning from Madrid and worked with his team-mates for their clash with Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Simeone added: "We as coaches convey to Trippier what is important which is for the team and we will act based on what happens."
