Diego Simeone proven right about Thomas Partey after what he did during Arsenal vs Aston Villa

Thomas Partey's Arsenal career has been full of ups and downs since signing from Atletico Madrid 12 months ago.

Partey came to the Premier League with a huge reputation after establishing himself as one of the most well-rounded midfielders in Europe during his stint in Spain's capital.

The Ghana international suffered from a plethora of injury problems throughout his debut campaign at the Emirates Stadium, missing a total of 21 matches across this season and last.

However, the 28-year-old enjoyed an impeccable display on Friday night against Aston Villa, controlling the centre of the pitch whilst also netting his first goal in an Arsenal shirt as Mikel Arteta's side defeated the west Midlands club 3-1.

Partey registered seven successful duels, two clearances and three tackles and it was his first half glancing header that broke the deadlock after 23 minutes, connecting with Emile Smith Rowe's corner to give the Gunners a well-deserved lead after they had dominated the early proceedings.

The north London club have been undefeated since the tough-tackling midfielder returned to full fitness, winning five games and drawing twice across all competitions.

And Partey's stellar performances will come as no surprise to his former manager Diego Simeone, who has previously lauded the Ghanian.

"Thomas is the one who best understands this position and the transition from defence to attack, shooting, scoring, providing assists and playing passes between the lines," Simeone said before the Partey completed his move to the Emirates Stadium last October.

"When he's at his best level consistently, he's so good that all the best teams in Europe are looking at him."
