Diego Simeone has declined to comment on Chelsea’s interest in appointing him as manager at Stamford Bridge next season.
The Atlético Madrid coach is on Chelsea’s shortlist to become the club’s next permanent manager when Guus Hiddink’s interim period comes to an end in the summer. And, with Pep Guardiola believed to be likely to agree a move to Manchester City, Simeone is understood to be Chelsea’s first choice – although convincing him will not be easy.
When he was asked about Chelsea at Atléticos’s Cerro del Espino training ground on Saturday morning, Simeone refused to be drawn. He responded simply: “No comment. A respect for everyone.”
Chelsea have also identified other candidates and a decision is not expected before the new year.
