Diego Simeone decision jeered by fans ahead of Atletico Madrid Champions League showdown with Liverpool

Diego Simeone's decision to substitute Joao Felix was jeered by Atletico Madrid supporters on Saturday ahead of their Champions League return leg against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Felix was making his first start since January after picking up a leg injury and gave Atletico a 2-1 lead over Sevilla before the visitors levelled shortly before half-time.

The La Liga clash ended 2-2 and leaves Atletico fifth in the table.

Former Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kieran Trippier, who completed a transfer to the Wanda Metropolitano last summer, also appeared to be limping at full-time.

Felix's display was praised after the game by Spanish football journalist Dermot Corrigan, who noted: "Another Jekyll & Hyde from Atletico - ahead of Anfield biggest take-away is Joao Felix is fully fit and sharp, and anybody's guess who plays right back and left back."

Atletico possess a 1-0 Champions League advantage over Liverpool from their first knockout round victory in February.

Both Felix and Trippier missed the first-leg through injury.
