Diego Maradona’s lawyer has said he will ask for a full investigation into the circumstances of the Argentina legend's death, and criticised what has claimed was a slow response by the emergency service.
Maradona, widely considered the greatest footballer of all-time, died on Wednesday after suffering heart failure at his home in Tigre, in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. He was 60.
His lawyer Matias Morla has said he wants what he describes as “inexplicable” and “idiotic crime” to be overlooked.
“It is inexplicable that for 12 hours my friend has had no attention or check-up from the personnel dedicated to these ends,” Morla said in a statement on his Twitter account.
“The ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive, which it was an idiotic crime.”
Three days of national mourning have begun in Argentina following the death of Maradona, who inspired his country to the 1986 World Cup.
He had been recuperating from successful surgery to remove a blood clot on the brain and was due to be treated for alcohol dependency.
Maradona's body is in state at the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires where thousands of fans are paying their final respects. A million people are expected to visit his casket.
