Diego Maradona reveals why Man City have overtaken Manchester United as his favourite English side

Football legend Diego Maradona has revealed that Manchester United used to be his favourite Premier League team but now he prefers Man City.

The two Manchester clubs have been on different trajectories in recent years, with City claiming an unprecedented domestic treble this past season whereas United finished 6th after a dismal end to the season.

Maradona, who is widely regarded as one of the best players the sport has ever seen, has explained why he now prefers the Blue side of Manchester.

“Manchester United used to be my favourite English team for so long," the Argentine told FourFourTwo.

"So many great players and a great team under Alex Ferguson. But now I have to say Man City.

"I know you shouldn’t change like that but it’s because of Kun [Aguero]. We speak a lot and he plays in a very good team.”

After a nomadic managerial career which has taken him all over the globe, Maradona is now the manager of Mexican second division side Dorados.

He took the side from 13th in table to the cusp of promotion, but they then lost the play-off final 2-1 on aggregate.

One manager he respects greatly is City's Pep Guardiola and he also explained why.

"His teams are athletic but they still use the ball smarertly.

"Football should be about the ball. I sometimes get frustrated when watching English football. I like it but it can be too athletic - too much power and too little beauty."
