Diego Maradona pictured for the first time following emergency brain operation

Argentina legend Diego Maradona smiles from his hospital bed in the first photo published since his emergency op for a brain blood clot.

The former Naples and Barcelona star looked happy and relaxed alongside his personal physician Leopoldo Luque.

The medic published the photo on his Instagram shortly before Diego, 60 on October 30, was discharged from the private Olivos Clinic on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

He will continue his recovery in a house near to where his daughter Gianinna lives in an exclusive area near the Argentinian capital called Nordelta.

Diego was rushed to hospital at the start of last week after a routine CT scan showed he had a subdural haemotoma.

He was expected to leave at the end of last week but was kept in following his doctor’s admission he was suffering alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Maradona left hospital in an ambulance, with the ex-Barcelona and Napoli superstar being driven away from the private clinic just before 6pm local time on Wednesday.

His departure came eight days after he was admitted.

Argentinian TV reporters travelling on motorbikes filmed the ambulance carrying him leaving before following the vehicle to transmit every inch of his journey.
