Diego Maradona: New mural paying tribute to legendary Argentina player appears on Glasgow street

A colourful new mural paying tribute to Diego Maradona has appeared on the streets of Glasgow.

The amazing mural was completed in the last day or two on a storage building behind Gordan's Bar on Royston Road in the Provanmill area.

Painted blue and white in reference to Argentina's flag, it shows an outstretched hand striking a ball in reference to Maradona's famous 'Hand of God' goal against England in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

The word 'Diego' is also written in white lettering at the bottom right of the mural, which is the work of Glasgow graffiti artist AK Paintz.

The footballing world has been in mourning following the death of arguably the greatest player in the history of the game, not least in Naples and in Buenos Aires, where he was laid to rest on Thursday.

And Maradona had a special connection with Glasgow, given the fact he scored his first ever goal for his national side in a 3-1 friendly win over Scotland at Hampden back in June of 1979.

Diego also then managed Argentina for the first time here in the city at Hampden in a 1-0 friendly victory for the Albiceleste back in November of 2008.
