Diego Luna reveals progress on Andor season 2 production

Diego Luna gives an update on the production progress of Andor season 2.

In a recent interview with Variety, star Diego Luna gave an exciting update on the highly-anticipated second season of Disney+'s Andor. Fans of the Star Wars TV series have been eagerly waiting for its return, and Luna's update has only added to the anticipation.

Andor season 1 was met with great acclaim, being hailed as one of the best-ranked Star Wars TV shows to date. The series impressed audiences with its exceptional writing, outstanding performances, and gritty tone, setting it apart from other entries in the Star Wars universe. The positive reception of the first season has naturally intensified the excitement surrounding the upcoming second season.

Luna revealed that the production of Andor season 2 was briefly put on hold due to the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023. However, he shared that there are only seven days of filming left and that he will be returning to London to complete the remaining scenes. This update brings reassurance that the filming process will be finished sooner rather than later, potentially speeding up the release of the highly-anticipated continuation on Disney+.

The update from Diego Luna also sheds some light on the speculated release date for Andor season 2. Initially, it was assumed that the season would premiere in 2024. However, Lucasfilm's announcement about its Star Wars release slate in December 2023 did not include Andor, leading many to believe that the show had been pushed back to 2025. Luna's recent statement seems to support this assumption.

Typically, big-budget TV shows like Andor spend around eight to twelve months in post-production. Considering that season 1 wrapped filming in September 2021 and premiered a year later in September 2022, a filming wrap in January 2024 for season 2 is likely to result in a 2025 release. It appears that Disney and Lucasfilm have a packed roster of Star Wars series planned for 2024, including Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3, and Tales of the Jedi season 2, which may have contributed to the decision to delay Andor.

Although fans may have to wait a bit longer for Andor season 2, the update from Diego Luna indicates that progress is being made, and the series is on track for its eventual release. As filming nears its completion, viewers can keep their excitement alive by revisiting the thrilling events of the first season and eagerly anticipating the future adventures of Cassian Andor in a galaxy far, far away.
