Former Leeds United goalkeeper Nigel Martyn was impressed by Diego Llorente's long-awaited debut for Marcelo Bielsa's side but has suggested one big change for the Spaniard.
The 27-year-old Spain international was brought to the club during the summer window ahead of Leeds' return to the Premier League but has had to be patient waiting for his opportunity.
A long stint in the side could lie ahead of him now following Robin Koch's injury setback, which could see Llorente's fellow defender sidelined until March.
Having been given a baptism of fire against Chelsea, Llorente did manage to catch the eye with his performance and has established a solid platform to build upon.
As far as debuts go, Martyn was impressed with his display but believes he should cut down on playing out from the back, as it's a risky move.
“I thought he did well. On the day, Leeds created a lot of their own problems trying to play out from the back at times when there was too high a press. I know they will continue to do that,” he told The Boot Room.
“You have to realise sometimes it’s not worth the risk of another pass – sometimes you can be putting somebody else under pressure. I don’t think it’ll change but when there’s a high press, then you’re gonna have to go long at times.”
Leeds are set for three games in the space of a week in the Premier League, starting against West Ham on Friday evening.
That's followed by the hosting of Newcastle United on Wednesday before a trip to Old Trafford to tackle Manchester United.
