Diego Llorente to Leeds United: Advanced talks, Liverpool links, Josko Gvardiol alternative

Whilst Leeds United have made a positive start to their Premier League campaign, seven goals conceded in two matches has underlined some need to work on the defence.

Leeds landed Robin Koch from Freiburg earlier in the transfer window but replacing Ben White is not an easy task.

It means the Whites are looking to bring in another defender in this window that can act as cover.

They have been linked with a move for Spanish international Diego Llorente, who currently plays for Real Sociedad.

Here is everything we know so far about Leeds' interest in Llorente.

Whites in 'advanced talks'

Leeds are said to be in advanced talks to sign Diego Llorente.

The 27-year-old is a right-footed centre-back who, at 6ft 1ins, is also strong in the air.

His passing ability has also seen him operate in defensive midfield at times in his career.

Sky Sport's Tim Thornton says Leeds are nearing the signing of the Real Sociedad defender.

The former Real Madrid youth product was linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer.

It was reported that the Spanish international had an asking price of €45m at Real Sociedad, with a release clause between £40m and £50m.

Liverpool links

Reports in the Spanish press earlier this summer had suggested the defender was being lined up by Liverpool as a possible Dejan Lovren replacement.

That interest has amounted to nothing though and Jurgen Klopp admitted after his side's 2-0 win at Chelsea at the weekend that Fabinho and youngster Billy Koumetio are both now central defensive options for his side.

Premier League interest in Llorente doesn't stop there, with Spurs also being touted as a possible destination for the Spaniard in the summer months.

Josko Gvardiol alternative

As has been widely reported, it appears as if Leeds' other central defensive target Josko Gvardiol will move to RB Leipzig before the transfer deadline.

Leeds had been tipped to sign the young Croatian but he has his heart set on a move to the Bundesliga outfit, leaving United to turn their attentions elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.

Having conceded seven goals from their opening two games - only West Brom have let in more so far - Bielsa has moved quickly and decisively to identify the player to help bolster his backline.
