Diego Laxalt reveals his major Celtic regret as loanee labels Scottish Cup a ‘must win’ ahead of Rangers showdown

Loanee Diego Laxalt admits he has been disappointed not to get a chance to play in front of the Celtic fans.

However, he hopes to repay them with a Scottish Cup win after a torrid Premiership campaign.

The Uruguayan looks set to return to parent club AC Milan this summer having failed to displace Greg Taylor from the left-back slot.

With Covid restrictions meaning fans have been locked out of Parkhead, Laxalt told the Celtic View podcast he is gutted to miss out on the atmosphere in Glasgow's east end.

He said: “It’s been a good experience. I learned a new tutor, a new culture, a new style of football. I think it’s been a great adventure for me and my family.

“[Covid has been] hard for me and my family, but also it’s hard for everyone. I think it’s no more difficult for us than for other people.

"Maybe one thing I [would have liked] to see is the fans at Celtic Park."

Having lifted the Scottish Cup against Hearts in the delayed 2020 showpiece, the 28-year-old believes it is essential to keep the trophy in the Celtic Park cabinet.

Laxalt reckons the side have improved under John Kennedy in the run up to the crucial clash with Rangers tomorrow.

He added: “It’s been a hard season, but in the last three games we’ve been getting better.

"I think for everyone, it’s been a strange season. Especially for the biggest club, because I haven’t had the fans in the stadium. I think that’s really strange for everyone.

“I think we need to win the Scottish Cup. We need to finish as well as possible.

"At the big clubs, every season you need to win something. I think we must win the Scottish Cup.”
