Diego Forlan and Jurgen Klopp agree about Manchester United transfer target Darwin Nunez

Jurgen Klopp and former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan have already agreed on what Darwin Nunez can bring to the Premier League should Benfica sanction a big-money transfer for the player.

The 22-year-old remains hot property heading into the summer transfer window amid suggestions Erik ten Hag wants to prioritise his signature as part of an impending rebuild. United are searching for a centre-back, a versatile attacking option — such as Nunez — and at least one central midfield recruit.

Benfica are open to selling Nunez this summer but, according to reports, are set to dig their heels in over the fee for Uruguay's frontman. Indeed, they are thought to value him at nearly £80million after Nunez scored 34 goals in 41 games across all competitions for the Portuguese outfit this season.

Liverpool met Benfica and Nunez over two legs on their way to another Champions League final — which ended with defeat to Real Madrid in Paris on Saturday night. Speaking at the time, Klopp said: "He's a good striker and the next one from Uruguay. I don't know how they play together — Cavani, Suarez and him — in one team.

"That's a challenge to put that in place. Top, top boy. Yes, the goals he's scored. Obviously, the one against Ajax in Amsterdam was a massive one, yes in the group stage as well, so he's not shy."

Assessing his countryman, former United striker Forlan added: "I think that he's a very good player, a good kid who's doing really well at Benfica and is enjoying a strong season. Not just in the Portuguese league where he's doing well, but in the Champions League too.

"He's player who has a lot of potential and he could fit in at Manchester United, but also obviously everyone needs to have patience - although he's getting better with more and more experience. Nunez would not be a bad signing for Manchester United and it would be nice to see him there.

"It's a club that gives you time and that makes you feel comfortable. It would be spectacular having him playing for Manchester United."
