Die Hard trailer recut by 21st Century Fox to prove it's a Christmas film

The studio behindDie Hard has made its case: the action classic is not only a Christmas film, it’s the greatest Christmas film of all time.

Twentieth Century Fox has released a new trailer for the 1988 film, cut to make it look like true festive fare, and accompanied by the tongue-in-cheek tagline: “The greatest Christmas story ever told”.

It’s an opinion shared by YouTube mash-up artist Cassetteboy, who created Die Hard’s own take on the 12 Days of Christmas, while Sky has even launched a public vote to help settle the matter for good.

Even the film’s screenwriter agrees: “How could it not be a Christmas movie?” Steven E de Souza tweeted. “Plus a woman about to give birth features prominently.”

However, YouGov poll has already found that only 31 per cent of those polled actually said they consider films set at Christmas, but not specifically about Christmas, Christmas movies – which doesn’t spell good news for Die Hard

And, according to its very own star, Bruce Willis, the film is defiantly not a Christmas flick.

The actor ended his appearance on The Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis by declaring: “Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.”

He then sealed the deal with a harmonica solo.
