A new cut of the Die Hard trailer has sold the iconic action movie as "the greatest Christmas story ever told".

Twentieth Century Fox released the trailer for the 1988 film on Tuesday, which revamps the movie as a fun-filled romp packed with festive spirit.

Following years of debate over whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas film, the 90-second trailer features a jolly voiceover, upbeat music and declares the film a holiday classic.

It marks the release of the original movie in an all-new Christmas edition on DVD and Blu-ray to celebrate the thriller's 30th anniversary.

The argument as to whether Die Hard counts as a Christmas flick seemed to come to an end when its co-writer Steven De Souza confirmed it was indeed festive in 2017.

However Bruce Willis later announced on Comedy Central Roast: "Die Hard is not a Christmas movie!"

Now Fox has sought to put the debate to bed with its new Christmas edition of the film.

The version comes in some festive Ugly Christmas jumper packaging, with the Nakatomi building set against a green and red backdrop that also spells out Ho, Ho, Ho and Yippee Ki Yay!
