'Didn't see the big fuss' - Cambridge defender's Allan Saint-Maximin quip after FA Cup win

Cambridge United defender George Williams has joked he did not understand the 'big fuss' about Allan Saint-Maximin following the shock FA Cup win against Newcastle United.

The Magpies' number 10 has been one of the few positives in an otherwise difficult campaign to date, registering four goals and three assists so far.

However, Saint-Maximin struggled alongside his team-mates as Eddie Howe's side slumped to a disappointing third-round exit against League One opposition.

Joe Ironside scored the only goal of the game, while the former Nice forward struggled alongside his fellow attackers to fashion openings at the other end.

Cambridge full-back Williams was one of the men tasked with keeping the 24-year-old quiet, and has quipped he was surprised by the Newcastle star's performance.

However, the visiting defender was quick to pay tribute to the Magpies and has wished Howe's team luck in their battle to avoid relegation.

He told talkSPORT: "I didn't see what the big fuss was about to be honest!

"Everyone is talking about Saint-Maximin, I was quite surprised to be honest. No, they were brilliant.

"They were sharp, quick, athletic, but we're a sneakily good team. We just thought if we can hang in there, you never know.

"They have got some great players and a lot of money now, so good luck to them."
