Didier Drogba delivers his verdict on failed European Super League after Chelsea decision

Didier Drogba has expressed his delight after his former club Chelsea announced their withdrawal from the European Super League.

The Premier League's so-called 'Big Six' all signed a letter of intent to join the new - but highly controversial - competition, which is the brainchild of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

However, since then, and with a mass amount of uproar and protest from all around the country, the plans have now been scrapped, with the six English teams all pulling out.

The news comes much to the delight of Blues supporters, with a large crowd gathered outside Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening to protest against the plans.

Just like the fans, club legend Drogba is enthralled with the decision to withdraw, taking to Twitter to share this.

In a three-tweet thread, the Ivorian wrote: "Promotion, relegation, unexpected results is what drives the emotions of the game,Being together, as players, as fans... that’s what makes it the beautiful game. "Little" @EthnikiOmada beating the "big" @selecaoportugal few years ago, @kkcrvenazvezda beating my team @OM_Officiel.

"or even @LCFC working hard to win the @premierleague title in front of the 'big four' is what makes the beautiful game. imagine all this effort and not being allowed to compete against other teams because you're not one of them despite playing the same game.

"is a kind of discrimination. I'm glad this project is not happening for the sake of the beautiful game and our amazing fans all around the world."

Chelsea were the last English club to officially announce their withdrawal, but football.london understands the Blues were actually the first of the 12 'Founding Clubs' to make the definitive decision regarding the Super League.
