Didier Drogba, Chelsea legend: Nine goals in nine finals and every trophy he won with the club

“His preparation, the intensity in his eyes and then he always produced.”

That’s how Frank Lampard remembers Didier Drogba, when quizzed on his former Chelsea team-mate in an interview last year.

The Ivorian may have called time on a 20-year playing career that has seen him play domestically in France, England, China, Turkey and the United States, but it is with Chelsea where he will be most fondly remembered.

Drogba won 11 major trophies with the Blues, and two Community Shields, scoring a dramatic late equaliser and the match-winner in the resulting penalty shootout when Chelsea won the Champions League in the 2011-12 campaign.

When Chelsea needed someone for the big occasion, Drogba was their cup final king – scoring in every final he appeared in for the Blues. A staggering nine goals in nine finals.

“To have him in your team in a final,” Lampard added, “you felt Didier in the dressing room before a big game that it was a different Didier, he was like an animal.

In two spells at the club, Drogba scored 164 goals in 381 appearances to cement his place as the club’s fourth all-time highest scorer.

36 of those strikes came in European competition, more than any other player for the club.
