Didier Deschamps sends message to Olivier Giroud amid Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid links

Olivier Giroud should leave Chelsea in the January transfer window in order to play more regularly.

That's the view of France national team manager Didier Deschamps who might just be developing concerns over the striker ahead of next summer's European Championships.

Despite signing a one-year contract extension earlier in the year, Giroud has found first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge limited this season due to the emergence of Tammy Abraham.

Lampard delighted with transfer embargo being lifted

With Euro 2020 fast approaching, the 33-year-old needs to be playing regularly if he's to make the final 23-man squad.

Luckily there are a couple of clubs willing to match his needs next month.

As revealed by football.london this week, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are among the clubs targeting his signature when the transfer window opens in a couple of weeks.

It's understood that Frank Lampard won't stand in Giroud's way should he want to leave and it's also expected that he will take up that option.

And Deschamps has urged him to do exactly that.

"Him like others, could be brought to move (next month). His situation at Chelsea has not changed for two months," Deschamps told L'Equipe, as per Get French Football News .

"It would be better for Olivier, quite obviously, to go to a club where he receives more playing time. If he cannot have playing time at Chelsea, the idea is for him to be able to go elsewhere.

"That will be his decision.

"But I don’t know the opportunities that he has, the possibilities to have more playing time."

Giroud has previously hinted at being prepared to leave Chelsea in January in order to boost his chances of making Deschamps' Euro 2020 squad.

"I'm going to fight for my place in Chelsea. The coach knows it. And we will make the decision in January,"  Giroud  said, as per  Goal . "If I want to leave Chelsea? Not necessarily. But if I need to make a choice.

"I have some beautiful years in front of me. I'm 33, I still have legs and a good healthy lifestyle and I feel good physically."
