France manager Didier Deschamps has heaped the praise on 'complete midfielder' Paul Pogba and explained why the Manchester United star plays so well for his national side.
Pogba, 28, has been one of the leading players at the ongoing European Championship with a series of commanding performances at the heart of the French midfield.
The former Juventus man has formed an irresistible partnership with teammate N'Golo Kante at the heart of the national side, a midfield pairing which just about offers everything a manager could ask for.
There remains fierce debate as to why Pogba plays so differently for France than for United and now Deschamps has lifted the lid on his precise role at international level.
The France manager believes the 'liberal role' suits Pogba's style of play perfectly while he also benefits from a freedom of being able to adjust his position during a match.
“Listen, Paul is a complete midfielder,” said Deschamps. “He has so many qualities - he can pass vertically, diagonally, all of this is part of his game.
“Then, of course, we work on the positioning, but it's not only about playing good passes, it's also about the positioning before the pass.
“His role is quite liberal, he's not limited in the offensive approach.
“If there's a need, he can also go back to win the ball behind, but on the pitch sometimes he can play a little bit higher or lower.
“His position can also develop between the left and right side, it just depends on the positioning of the other players.”
