Didier Deschamps Criticizes Real Madrid's Stance On Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid Basketball

France national team manager Didier Deschamps has criticized Real Madrid's stance on French players, particularly in relation to the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. The situation revolves around the potential transfer of Kylian Mbappe to the Spanish club, although the move has not been officially confirmed yet.

Reports suggest that Mbappe has informed his current club, Paris Saint-Germain, that he will not be renewing his contract which expires on June 30. While it is widely believed that Mbappe has already signed a five-year deal with Real Madrid, the club has not made an official announcement.

Controversy arose when France U-23 coach Thierry Henry expressed his desire to include Mbappe, along with Antoine Griezmann and Olivier, in the squad for the Olympics. This move was seen as a challenge to Real Madrid, who have indicated that they will not release their French players for the competition.

Real Madrid's decision is based on concerns over potential injuries, as the players would already be participating in the Euros in Germany during the same summer. Mbappe has expressed his desire to compete in the Olympics but stated that he would respect his club's decision.

Deschamps, while acknowledging Madrid's authority in the matter, described their stance as 'a bit old-fashioned.' He emphasized that the employer ultimately has the final say on player participation in non-FIFA events.

Despite the ongoing debate, Deschamps made it clear that if it's not a FIFA date, the club's decision stands. The situation highlights the complexities that can arise when club and country interests clash, especially in a sport where players often find themselves torn between loyalty to their clubs and national teams.
