Didi Hamann questions two Liverpool stars and tells Jurgen Klopp what to do if Gini Wijnaldum leaves

Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann says his old club do not need to break the bank with big-money signings this summer.

After the Reds’ exit from the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid, talk has immediately shifted on what changes, if any, need to be made to the squad.

The main area relating to transfers that gets talked about the most is what players should come in, and whether or not a squad overhaul is needed.

After that, there is debate around whether any of the current members of the squad should depart in order to make way for new additions.

Hamann has argued that while Liverpool no not need splash the cash on a big name this summer, they would benefit from having extra numbers in midfield.

“I don’t think they need many big name signings,” Hamann told talkSPORT .

He added: “Obviously, a lot will depend on whether Salah and Mane stay at the club.

“I think they missed Jota in the last few weeks, he’s become a very important player for them.

“The centre-backs will be back. They certainly need two or three signings, Milner is 35 now, Keita hasn’t really come to the party since he joined Liverpool, and there are still a lot of question marks over Thiago.

“If Wijnaldum goes, I think they will need at least two players in the centre of midfield. But apart from that, when the injured players come back, I don’t think they will need a huge overhaul.”
