ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. _ Didi Gregorius still believes he's in play for the postseason.
On Monday, the Yankees shortstop reported "a big improvement from yesterday to today" in his right wrist. "It's feeling stronger."
And despite a diagnosis of torn cartilage in his throwing wrist, Gregorius remained firm about his own plans with a week to go in the regular season.
"I said the same thing (Sunday), too. I think I'll be ready to go before the season ends," Gregorius said at Tropicana Field where the Yankees were set to open a four-game series against the Rays.
The Yankees have already qualified for the wild-card game, with a magic number of five to host it; any combination of five Yankees wins or Oakland Athletics losses would make the Yankees the hosts at the Stadium on Oct. 3 for the elimination game.
Gregorius injured himself on a headfirst slide into home plate, scoring the game winning run in Saturday's postseason clincher against Baltimore.
