NEW YORK _ Greg Bird's grand slam stoked the party-like atmosphere of Sunday's first inning, as the Yankees scored six quick runs.
Yet, there was cause for concern.
After colliding with Blue Jays first baseman Kendrys Morales on an RBI infield single, shortstop Didi Gregorius soon exited the game with a bruised left heel.
Gregorius was taken to Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital for further evaluation as the Yankees finished off a 10-2 win, completing a three-game sweep of Toronto at drizzly Yankee Stadium.
The first six Yankees batters each came around to score against Jays right-hander Ryan Borucki, who didn't make it through the first inning.
Gregorius was replaced in the third inning by Ronald Torreyes, who singled twice and doubled as the second baseman _ with Gleyber Torres sliding over to shortstop.
Aaron Hicks and Giancarlo Stanton opened the first inning with walks and Miguel Andujar had just delivered an RBI single when Gregorius _ batting cleanup _ beat out a single to the second base hole.
But in doing so, Gregorius got tangled up with Morales, taking the throw from the right-field grass.
As Gregorius slammed to the ground in pain, Yankees head athletic trainer Steve Donohue rushed to attend to him.
After about two minutes of shaking his leg and bouncing in place, a wincing Gregorius remained in the game and eventually jogged home on Bird's second career grand slam.
