Diddy’s Legal Team Is Aiming On Portraying Cassie Ventura As ‘Aggressive’

CONTENT WARNING: This article discusses sexual and physical violence.

Attorneys representing disgraced rapper and music mogul, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, admitted in court on Friday that while their client had been violent towards ex-girlfriend and singer Cassie Ventura, they alleged that violence in the relationship was “mutual”.

Defence attorney Marc Agnifilo said that the team is planning on taking “the position there was mutual violence in their relationship”, under questioning from Judge Arun Subramanian

“We are absolutely going to admit to domestic violence, but at what point does it become coercive?” said Agnifilo.

Combs’ legal team also stated that Ventura was “strong”, had a “nature of violence”, and was “capable of starting physical confrontations”, but Subramanian retorted back that “strong people can be coerced just like weak people”.

In March last year, a surveillance video filmed in 2016 was revealed via CNN, and showed Combs kicking and dragging Ventura in a hotel lobby. Ventura and Combs were in a personal relationship from 2007 to 2018, beginning when Ventura was 19 and Combs was 37.

Ventura is referred as ‘Victim-1’ in court documents, and is a key witness against Combs in his upcoming trial.

Ventura filed a civil lawsuit against Combs in New York in 2024. She has accused him of sexual assault, rape, and physical violence.

The lawsuit was settled between the pair shortly after, although dozens of similar lawsuits against Combs by different individuals have since been filed.

Combs is currently behind bars in a Manhattan prison — the same housing Luigi Mangione — and faces charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, sexual assault, among other similar charges.

His criminal trial began on May 5, with jury selection, and opening statements are expected to begin on May 12. Final jury selections are expected to be made soon, with the jury pool currently narrowed down to 45 people.

If convicted, Combs could face life in prison.
