Diddy and James Corden Carpool Karaoke moment goes viral

James Corden is winding down his time as host of The Late Late Show, where he made famous Carpool Karaoke - a segment where the presenter sings or raps with a special guest as he drives around.

The portion of the show became such a hit that it spawned its own spin-off series on Apple + and has since had a new life with a different presenter and guest each time.

However, Corden has occasionally revived the feature on The Late Late Show and, as he prepares to finish his time, he packed in some big names in recent weeks with Bad Bunny, Lil Nas X and Blackpink joining him in the car.

On this latest edition, his special guest was P Diddy and the pair performed Bad Boy For Life before the rapper revealed only Jay Z is allowed to call him by his birth name of Sean. Diddy then suggested Corden could change his name to “Love” as he enters a new part of his life.

But the clip has gone viral since its release this week for a debate between the pair over the song Diddy, which the pair perform. The 2001 track has the chorus: “The D the I the D the D the Y, the D the I the D… It’s Diddy.”

“Doesn’t that spell ‘Diddydid’?” Corden asked.

“Yeah… But we don’t have to spell the rest of it,” Diddy replied. And when questioned by Corden, the rapper said, “The last ‘d’ and ‘y’ are silent. Have you never heard of silent letters?”

After a blank look from Corden, Diddy continued: “We’re just saying it’s Diddy, we are not saying it is spelled like that.”

Corden asserted “It’s ‘Diddydid’” one last time before the chat moved on and the pair performed I’ll Be Missing You.

Diddy has recently fathered his seventh child and is promoting the drink line CÎROC honey melon. In late last year he had said his fifth album - and first since 2006 LP Press Play - would be dropping in “early 2023” although this has not happened yet. The 53-year-old has, however, released single Sex in the Porsche, which he discussed with Corden.
