Did your MP vote to block a no-deal Brexit?

When MPs backed a bill aimed at blocking a no-deal Brexit on October 31st, it sent shockwaves through Parliament last week.

Opposition MPs and Tory rebels ensured the bill passed through Parliament by 327 votes to 299.

The bill forces the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, to ask for an extension beyond the October 31st Brexit deadline if a deal has not been agreed with the European Union.

Mr Johnson claimed MPs had "scuppered" the Brexit talks, but Labour's Sir Keir Starmer said there had not been any progress in the negotiations.

The Bill was approved in the House of Lords last Thursday and it will received Royal Assent from the Queen, making it law.

It says the Prime Minister has until October 19th to either pass a deal in Parliament or to get MPs to approve a no-deal Brexit.

If you use our interarctive tool, you can find out how the MP in your area voted. Graham Brady, the Conservative MP for Altrincham and Sale voted No to blocking a no-deal Brexit, as did Independent Ivan Lewis in Bury South and Conservative Mary Robinson in Cheadle also voted No.

Ivan Lewis, an Independent MP for Bury South, voted No for the bill aimed at blocking a no-deal Brexit, which passed through the House of Commons and Lords last week (PA)

But others including, Angela Rayner in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lucy Powell in Manchester Central and Tony Lloyd in Rochdale voted Yes to the bill.

Once this deadline passes, Mr Johnson will have to request an extension to the UK's departure date to January 31st 2020 - and the bill also includes the wording of the letter the PM would have to write.

If the EU responds by proposing an alternative date, the PM will have two days to accept that proposal. During that time, MPs - not the government - will have the opportunity to reject the EU's date.

The bill also requires ministers to report to the House of Commons over the next few months potentially providing further opportunities to take control of the timetable.

Mr Johnson's two bids for a snap general election have both been rejected by MPs following a vote.
