Subhash Ghai, who is celebrating his 78th birthday, started his career as an actor. He then went on to become one of the most respected filmmakers in Bollywood. The director is aptly called as the 'showman' of Bollywood.
However, did you know that Subhash Ghai is embarrassed about being called the 'showman'? Yes, you read that right! In a throwback interview with a news portal, Ghai had revealed that he has always been a great admirer of Raj Kapoor's work. Even though his films were not like Raj Kapoor's films, the late actor was a guru and Ghai learnt a lot from him, which he tried to translate into his own cinema. According to the filmmaker, the three things that are a must in a film are satyam, shivam, sundaram. A film should have honesty, shiv or divinity and beauty.
Elaborating further, Ghai added that it has always been very embarrassing for him to be called 'showman'. In his own publicity material or ads they have never mentioned Subhash Ghai as a showman. According to him, it is a media created title for a man. It was given to Raj Kapoor. And then it was given to him after 'Hero' and 'Karma'.
From launching the likes of Madhuri Dixit, Meenakshi Seshadhri to Jackie Shroff, and Subhash Ghai's aura as a visionary made him an established director whose story is nothing less than a script of a typical Hindi movie.
