'Did they not see the edge?' locals shocked as car plunges into Musselburgh Harbour

People in Musselburgh in East Lothian reacted in shock and surprise on Monday night (31 August) after a car was pictured bonnet-down in the mud after seemingly rolling off the edge of the harbour car park.

Fortunately for the car's owner, the tide was out at the time.

One local woman took to Facebook to share a photo of the mishap, which also showed three police officers attending the scene.

Some commenters pointed out that this is not the first time a similar incident has taken place, with one man writing:

"Way back in the early 1980’s I dealt with a similar ‘accident’. No injuries sustained in this one apart from a bruised ego. Young lad showing off to his girlfriend in the early hours of the morning and misjudged where the pier end was due to the heavy fog!"

Some people reported a sense of deja vu (Ian Stevens)

Another person added: "Every year without fail."

And another bystander said: "I saw this! Literally stopped in my tracks when I saw it... How the actual hell!!!!!? Did they not see the edge!?"

Edinburgh Live have reached out to Police Scotland for comment.
