Some fans are convinced Matty Healy made reference to his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift with a suspiciously placed word during his set at Glastonbury music festival.
The musician, who had a whirlwind romance with Swift back in 2023, was at the annual music event for his headlining performance as the frontman of rock band The 1975.
In between songs, Healy took a moment to address the crowd, saying the set was “making [him] realise that I probably am the best”.
“I’m probably the best songwriter of my generation,” Healy added, as heard in fan footage of the moment.
Self-congratulations aside (has he heard of Joni Mitchell? Heck, even Chet Hanks?), Healy then commented further on his songwriting talent.
“The best, what do we say — A POET — ladies and gentlemen, is what I am.”
Naturally, the use of the word “poet” was taken by some as a reference to The Tortured Poets Department, Swift’s 2024 album that is thought to contain multiple songs about Healy.
In fact, it was rumoured soon after that album’s release that as many as six tracks were inspired by Swift’s relationship with Healy, including the title track, “Down Bad” and “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)”.
With all that, it seems Healy really might be the head of the so-called poets department, which would also count fellow exes like Joe Alwyn as fellow classmates.

Of course, we don’t know for sure whether Healy’s comment was intentionally referencing Swift or whether it was simply the musician ~ poetically ~ patting himself on the back, but since hell hath no fury like a Swiftie scorned, fans’ comments came in thick and fast.
“Why is he trying to get clout from TTPD?”, one user wrote on X, with another adding that “the only thing [Healy] will be known for is being Taylor Swift’s ex boyfriend”.
Well, either that, or that time he ate raw beef on stage?

Whatever the case, both Healy and Swift have since moved on after their fleeting romance, with the former getting engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel in 2024 and Swift being papped within an inch of her life with longtime boyfriend Travis Kelce.
In the spirit of Healy’s comments, I leave you with this poem:
One fish, two fish, red Swift blue Swift.
IDK, I’m still working on it.
