Did Kieron Pollard intentionally rob a West Indies teammate of a Twenty20 century?

The size of Kieron Pollard's step over the line was out of character.

An outlandish innings in the Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 tournament has been marred by what appeared to be a shocking lack of sportsmanship.

A match between the Barbados Tridents and the Saint Kitts & Nevis Patriots was a foregone conclusion after the Patriots equalled Barbados' 128 in the seventh over of their chase.

Going at better than 18 runs an over thanks to a ridiculous 32-ball 97 by Patriots opener Evin Lewis, he had one shot to win the match and reach his ton with either his 12th six or his seventh four of the match.

Instead, Tridents all-rounder and West Indies veteran Kieron Pollard opted to bowl a no ball to end the match instead, stranding Lewis on 97.

The overstep was not gargantuan, although it was big enough, and the way he banged the first ball of the eighth over so short all but confirmed it was an intentional act by Pollard.

It also came shortly after Lewis smashed 24 runs off Pollard's first over of the match.

"It hurts, but hitting 97 not out off 33 balls? I'll take that any day," a sporting Lewis said.

Immediately after he saw the no ball signalled, Lewis shook his head before smiling wryly and sharing a chilly handshake with Pollard and a laugh with Pollard's bemused teammate, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.

Lewis and Pollard have played nine Twenty20s and one ODI together for the West Indies and this sort of incident will do nothing to help the already questionable culture within the team.
