Did Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio ever date? Inside the Titanic star's 'close bond'

Kate Winslet, who turns 47 today (October 5), is of the most accomplished actresses in Hollywood.

She has established quite the name for herself, staring in films including The Holiday, Revolutionary Road and the upcoming Avatar 2. But it was 25 years ago that the British actress first rose to fame with her breakout role in the 1997 film Titanic.

The epic romance saw her star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and their steamy on-screen chemistry has caused fans to speculate for years whether the pair ever took their romance off-screen.

Here's whether Kate ever dated Leo and what she's said about the close bond that they share.

Despite having maintained a close bond in the 25 years since meeting on the set of Titanic in 1997, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have never had a romantic relationship.

When they first met all those years ago, Kate however did reveal that she was concerned that Leo's good looks would distract her.

A year after the release of Titanic, she told Access Hollywood: "I did think to myself beforehand, it's going to be hard, because you know, what if I really fancy him?

"And I so thought I was going to, because he is absolutely gorgeous."

But as rumours of an off-screen romance between the pair spiralled, Kate laughed off the gossip, confirming that they were just friends as she told Rolling Stone in 1998: "Just the notion of that was insane it would have been absolutely like incest."

Despite never having a romantic relationship, the actors have confirmed their love for each other and often speak about their tight bond.

In 2008, just over a decade after they first worked together on the Titanic, they starred alongside each other again in the film Revolutionary Road, which saw them play a troubled married couple.

When accepting her Best Actress award at the 2009 Golden Globes, Kate said: "Leo, I'm so happy I can stand here and tell you how much I love you, and how much I've loved you for 13 years. I love you with all my heart, I really do."

The pair have such a close friendship that Leo even played a huge role in Kates 2012 wedding to Ned Rocknroll. To the disappointment of many fans he wasn't the groom, but he is reported to have walked Kate down the isle.

And although they first crossed paths over two decades ago, Leo and Kate's friendship is still holding up strong.

In an interview with The Guardian last year, Kate said: "Like so many friendships globally, we’ve missed each other because of Covid. He’s my friend, my really close friend. We’re bonded for life.”
