Did Joe Duffy win at UFC Fight Island? Results as he made his return to the Octagon

Joe Duffy suffered a disappointing submission loss tonight in his return to the octagon at UFC Fight Island.

The Donegal native tapped after he was caught in a guillotine hold just under three minutes into the first round of their preliminary bout.

In an exciting bout, the pair traded vicious leg kicks and threw plenty of shots before Duffy scored a takedown.

But the Spaniard managed to catch Duffy in the choke as the pair hit the mat, with the Irishman forced to tap a few seconds later.

After recording his third loss in a row, Duffy took to social media to announce his retirement after the bout.

In the main-event, Deiveson Figueiredo dismantled Joseph Benavidez in a clinical first round victory to win the UFC flyweight championship.

In the pair's highly anticipated rematch, the Brazilian floored the veteran three times before scoring a rear naked choke to get his hands on UFC gold.

In the co-main event Jack Hermansson raised a few eyebrows with an impressive first round submission win over Kelvin Gastelum - with a heel hook enough to get the win.

A fight of the night contender came as Rafael Fiziev defeated Marc Diakiese, the lightweights went to war in a striking showdown - with the Kyrgyzstan native earning an unanimous decision victory. 

In one of the more impressive finishes of the night, Ariane Lipski locked in a kneebar to get the win over Luana Carolina in the first round of her flyweight bout.

And in the main card opener, Dagestan fighter Askar Askarov pushed himelf into the flyweight title picture in an impressive decision win over no. 4 ranked Alexandre Pantoja.

Georgian light-heavyweight Roman Dolidze moved to 7-0 on his UFC debut, with a brutal kick enough to down Khadis Ibragimov.

In the penultimate fight of the prelims, Grant Dawson put on a show as he scored a unanimous decision win over Englishman Nad Narimani.

Just before Duffy's loss, Brett Johns picked up a hard-fought decision win over Montel Jackson - dominating through all three rounds in the clinch and on the ground.

Also picking up a win was Iraq native Amir Albazi, the 26-year-old impressed with a triangle choke enough to beat Malcolm Gordon.

23-year-old Russian fighter Arman Tsarukyan extended his record to 15-2 with a clinical performance earning a decision victory over Davi Ramos.

In the first fight of the night, Moldavian heavyweight Sergey Spivak scored a majority decision win over a debuting Carlos Felipe.
