Did Federico Fernandez get his car fixed? Newcastle defender reveals all on THAT viral picture

Federico Fernandez has been one of Newcastle's most reliable performers since joining from Swansea City last summer.

The Argentina international has been a dependable option at centre-half and has established himself as part of Steve Bruce's preferred pairing at the back alongside captain Jamaal Lascelles.

Newcastle fans were delighted when the 31-year-old put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension and he is set to play a key role as United look to push forward next season.

But as much as he is dependable and can be relied upon, the same seemingly cannot be said for his car.

A couple of weeks ago, and image of Fernandez, Lascelles and Martin Dubravka pushing a broken down car on the road went viral on social media.

It turns out the car was Fernandez's and despite being brand new, it had broken down near Newcastle United's training ground and blocked the road.

A fan who helped Fernandez move his car took a picture with the trio and despite his frustration, Newcastle has managed to see the funny side.

And when he was asked whether he has had his car fixed in the latest Newcastle United matchday programme, Fernandez replied: "(Laughs) Not yet, not yet!

"I can’t believe it; after a week, my new car broke down outside the training ground. It blocked the road – it was a busy road anyway. Jamaal (Lascelles) and (Martin) Dúbravka stopped to help me (but) I was there for two hours.

"I just couldn’t believe it. It was a new car, (I’d had it) a week! I’m still waiting for news.

"It was funny. We were in Newcastle kit so it was really easy to recognise us and the guys were there, helping me to move the car to another road and waiting for the truck to come and bring me home!

"It was lucky because it was the first day that the club gave us food (at the training ground due to Covid-19 measures), so I was lunching in the car, and it was not too bad!"
