Did Chiefs DT Chris Jones take himself off free agent market?

One of the biggest free agents scheduled to hit the open market next month in the new league year is Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones. He will be a top target for many teams.

However, he sort of announced a contract extension with the Chiefs at the team’s Super Bowl parade on Wednesday.

Jones said the following:

“I ain’t going nowhere, baby! I will be here next year, the after and the year after.”

That sounds like he knows he is getting a three-year contract extension.

Jones, who has 75.5 career sacks since entering the league in 2016 and 35 over the last three seasons, is certainly going to be a priority for the Chiefs. He made $19.5 million in 2023 and likely wants a contract like Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams, something that will pay him at least $90 million over the next three years.

The Arizona Cardinals certainly could use a dominant player like Jones. It is unknown whether they were going to target Jones in free agency.

However, unless it was the alcohol talking, it sounds like the Cardinals and the rest of the NFL will not even have a chance at him.
