Did Chargers RB Melvin Gordon hint at return in 2019?

Chargers running back Melvin Gordon and the team appear to be far apart in contract negotiations amid his holdout.

Los Angeles offered Gordon around $10 million per year, but the former Wisconsin product feels like he’s worth closer to $12 million to $13 million annually.

Many are wondering what the future holds for Gordon since the two parties are unlikely to budge. There have been a variety of scenarios, but through his personal Instagram account, Gordon may have hinted what he’s planning to do.

TNF

Gordon took a photo of himself wearing a chain that says “TNF” on it. The first thing that comes to mind is “Thursday Night Football.” The Chargers have a Thursday matchup against the Raiders in Week 10 following their bye week.

This fits one of the three scenarios that Gordon’s holdout could follow. He could sit out until Week 10 and then return, and he would still get credit for playing this season and qualify for free agency next season.

If he were to go down that route, Los Angeles would either have to franchise-tag him next offseason, sign him to an extension or let him walk in free agency.
