Kilmarnock residents have been plastering comments all over social media after an almighty bang was heard in the town.
The Kilmarnock Standard told yesterday that Ayrshire was set for a thunderstorm, and it duly arrived this afternoon.
A loud bang was heard after a flash of lightning, and now smaller rumbles of thunder are continuing.
One startled resident posted on Facebook: "Now that was thunder!".
Others replied, claiming their house was shaking after the bang.
A resident said: "Did a bomb just hit Killie?"
Another added: "I am in hospital and the walls vibrated."
And a further reply stated: "That first rumble is the loudest I think I've ever heard," to which someone commented: "Same, that was intense."
Heavy rain continues to pour down in the town.
