Dick Van Dyke, 97, unveiled as Gnome on Masked Singer leaving Nicole Scherzinger in tears

Dick Van Dyke has shown he's still got it as he belted out a powerful rendition of When You're Smiling by Frank Sinatra.

At 97 years old, the legendary performer took part in the latest series of Fox's The Masked Singer but was eliminated on Wednesday after performing as the Gnome.

His show-stopping singing even reduced judge Nicole Scherzinger to tears as she she said it was "an honour" to watch him perform on the show.

After Dick revealed his identity, host Nick Cannon said: "This is the most seasoned and most decorated we've had on our show, ladies and gentlemen."

He then asked what it was like to perform as the Gnome.

"It was really dark in there. I couldn't see anything," Dick joked.

Nicole then gushed over the Mary Poppins icon as she broke down in tears.

"I love you so much, we love you, the whole world loves you so much. It's an honour to have you on our show.

"I can't believe you're here, I'm trying to like play it cool. You look so gorgeous, you look so handsome," she said.

Nicole's fellow panellist Jenny McCarthy said: "I am so blown away," before Dick told the judges how old he is.

Judge Ken Jeong said Dick was the reason he decided to go into comedy and said his unveiling as the gnome was "our greatest reveal ever."

Dick then gave one final performance, treating the audience to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from the 1964 film Mary Poppins.

Prior to his reveal, the judges had a lot of different guesses for which celebrity could be hiding in the Gnome costume.

Both Nicole and Robin Thicke believed it was Dustin Hoffman, while Jenny was certain it was Tony Bennett. Ken insisted that the Gnome was Robert De Niro.

Speaking about the judges' guesses, Dick said: "I just loved it that they thought I was Robert De Niro. I didn't know Robert De Niro could sing, to tell you the truth."

Fans went wild for Dick on The Masked Singer, with one person tweeting: "Few things have made me happier than seeing DICK VAN DYKE appear on television still singing and dancing at age 97."

"Love #DickVanDyke even more for this," another wrote.

A third fan commented: "I'm so happy that Dick Van Dyke finally appeared on The Masked Singer. Beautiful."
