Dick and Dom say Da Bungalow would be banned from children's TV if made today

Dick and Dom say their show Da Bungalow would be banned from children’s TV today.

“The rulebook since then has got bigger,” says Dick McCourt, 45. The pair look set to return to TV next year with an adult version of the kids’ show, which ran from 2002 to 2006 and featured segments such as the pair yelling “bogeys” in public.

They admit some of their features such as Baldy Slap Heads would not get the go-ahead today. “We got people to hold puppies, which would lick dog food off vases,” laughs Dom Wood, 43. “It was very funny. The dogs were happy, but nowadays that just would not be allowed.”

They proudly boast their show was the second kids’ TV programme (after Blue Peter) to be called out in the Commons. The duo, who star in the Beauty and the Beast panto at Fairfield Halls in Croydon, South London, this winter, plan to open a Da Bungalow bar in Ibiza.

Last year’s runner-up Jordan North wasn’t a fan of the grislier tasks on the ITV reality show, but he isn’t quite at home in luxury accommodation either.

The Radio 1 DJ stayed at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco and recalled: “They had a kinky box in there. It was a box full of handcuffs, lube, condoms, I think there were poppers in there, a feather tickler. I promise you. We didn’t use it.”

Jordan also moaned that the breakfast was tiny. He tells Alan Carr’s Life’s A Beach podcast, out today: “No wonder all the rich and famous are dead thin.”
